#1 Commemorative Air Force Dixie Wing

The only flying museum located near Atlanta, Georgia, the Commemorative Air Force Dixie Wing first opened its doors in 1987. Their mission is “acquire, restore, and preserve in flying condition a complete collection of combat aircraft which were flown by all military services of the United States, and selected aircraft of other nations, for the education and enjoyment of present and future generations of Americans.” The Dixie Wing museum has successfully embodied its mission over the last three decades and boasts an impressive fleet of historic aircraft that attracts visitors from around the world. That fleet is known as the CAF Ghost Squadron and tells the story of some of the most defining moments in American history.

The Dixie Wing is home to one of only three flying SBD-5 Dauntless aircraft in the world, as well as a P-51D Mustang and an FG-1D Corsair. Visitors can also enjoy the Airpower Museum that features a variety of artifacts and memorabilia. Those looking to truly soar can enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience by booking a Warbird Ride to fly in a historical WWII plane. Rides range from $150 to over $2,000, depending on the aircraft and duration. The city is known for its network of golf cart paths that stretch over 100 miles throughout the city, which explains why over 10,000 homes in Peachtree own and use golf carts as a regular means of transportation. This has led local businesses, shopping centers, and schools to designate golf cart parking for customers and students.

With golf carts prevalent throughout the city, the Peachtree City Police Department extended its patrol to the paths. The department uses golf carts to patrol the trails that are also used by pedestrians, joggers, cyclists, skaters, and many others. #3 Peachtree City Market

Centered around food and its ability to bring people together, the Peachtree City Market is the creation of Peachtree City native Tricia Stearns. Stearns earned her Master of Arts in Creative Writing from Kennesaw State University in 2010 and planned to teach English at the local junior college while also selling real estate in her spare time. As Stearns conducted academic research for her degree, she visited farmers’ markets from Raleigh to New Orleans, which inspired her to bring a fresh food market to her hometown.

Stearns saw her dream come to life and is proud of the year-round Peachtree City Market that welcomes farmers, artisans, and craftsmen to share their goods with the community. The market hosts over 60 vendors who sell everything from fresh produce and meats to bath and body products, jewelry, candles, and more. The City Market takes the experience a step further by entertaining guests with live music from local musicians, which makes the experience unforgettable for visitors of all ages.

#4 The Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater

If you enjoy outdoor venues, look no further than The Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater in Peachtree City. Known to locals as “The Fred,” the amphitheater is one of Peachtree’s most visited locations. The theater dates back to the 1970s and offers seating for 2,500 and standing room for hundreds more with its open-air design that is sure to provide a unique entertainment experience. Over the years, the venue has attracted a variety of performers, especially during Peachtree’s annual Summer Concert Series during which local and national acts take the stage.

#5 Line Creek Nature Area

For outdoor enthusiasts, the Line Creek Nature Area is a must-see in Peachtree City and is located just off Highway 54 on the Fayette and Coweta County line. The nature area stretches across 70 acres and is home to a variety of different habitats, including a lush forest, granite outcroppings, and a babbling stream bordered by azaleas. Visitors get to see and enjoy all this from over three miles of nature trails that feature several small bridges, picnic tables, and a gazebo. There’s also a small pond and a fishing dock where visitors can cast a line. You should also keep an eye out for the remnants of the dams from old 1800s mills on your journey. You can even bring your dog along as long as you have it on a leash.

#6 Peachtree City Lakes

Peachtree City is home to three gorgeous lakes that offer plenty of beauty and entertainment for those who love the water. Lake McIntosh is the city’s biggest lake and stretches across 650 acres, while Lake Peachtree and Lake Kedron are approximately 240 acres in size. The lakes all offer outstanding fishing, boating, and other recreational opportunities; however, each lake has its own set of rules and regulations.

Fishing is permitted on all three lakes and requires a state fishing license for those over the age of 16. Lake Peachtree allows swimming and public access to the lake; however, there are limitations on the use of gasoline-powered boats. Lake Kedron and Lake McIntosh do not allow swimming but permit the use of electric-powered boats. There are also other rules for the parks and recreation areas around the lakes. These rules eliminate visitors from soliciting, posting signs, littering, and bringing alcoholic beverages into the area. Pets are allowed but must be kept on a leash and cleaned up after.
