Exploring Peachtree City, Georgia

Peachtree City, Georgia, is a suburb of Atlanta with a population of a little over 35,000. Ask almost anyone familiar with how they feel about Peachtree City, and they are sure to tell you that it is one of the best places to live in Georgia. If you know anybody who has ever been to the city, they are likely to tell you that it is a nice place to visit with plenty of attractions to see and things to do. The city offers its residents a sparse suburban feel and lots of parks. Not to mention, it’s pretty close to an excellent Honda dealer, our own Honda of Newnan.

Just as important, Peachtree City boasts highly rated public schools, a diverse population, and a low crime rate. Peachtree City also has over 100 miles of paved multi-use paths that connect dining, shopping, and other recreation and is utilized by golf carts. That’s right, you can actually tour the city in a golf cart at 15 mph. However, you might prefer to take your new Honda to these Peachtree City sites.

Outdoor Fun

The Frederick C. Brown Amphitheater, locally known as “The Fred,” is an open-air theater that seats 2,500 and in the past has hosted popular performers including Foreigner, Gladys Knight, and Huey Lewis and the News. The venue offers a diverse selection of acts for people with all types of taste in music. For more than 30 years, the venue has booked talented performers and other top acts; it’s the intimate setting and choice of talent that has people coming back again and again.

If the weather is nice, you will definitely want to get outdoors and explore what nature has to offer. If you prefer rugged areas where nature is less tame and a little wilder, then you need to head out to Line Creek Nature Area or the Flat Creek Nature Area. The Line Creek Natural Area consists of 70 acres of public preserve along the Line Creek. While hiking this scenic trail, you will enjoy the rushing stream, hardwood forests, and granite outcroppings. Don’t forget to pack a basket of food and enjoy a picnic. There is even a fishing dock on the pond.

Flat Creek Nature Area offers over 500 acres of wetland that stretches across Flat Creek. Visitors get to enjoy a 1200 foot boardwalk, a mulch trail, and two viewing platforms with benches. A walk through the area will reveal forested wetlands filled with chestnut oaks, turtlehead ferns, and red maples. There are numbered markers along the trail that indicate which tree species you are enjoying. The boardwalk will take you right to the Fred Brown Amphitheater, where you can enjoy the evening show.

If you have never been to a local farmer’s market, we suggest you put it on your list of things to do while in Peachtree City. Located in the parking lot at the Aberdeen Village shopping center, which is nicely shaded with plenty of parking, you will find the Peachtree City Farmer’s Market. This is a mid-sized farmer’s market boasting many notable local producers, including Scharko Farms, which grows the best lima beans around, Georgia Jams to satisfy your sweet tooth, and grass-fed beef and pork from Country Gardens Farm. From soap makers to beekeepers to bakers, you will always find a wonderful assortment of products. The Peachtree City Farmer’s Market also provides live music to add to the atmosphere, providing the perfect backdrop to your shopping experience and supporting local musicians.

Shopping, Sightseeing, and More

The Avenue Peachtree City is a local shopping center offering 47 stores for your shopping adventure; this outdoor lifestyle center offers a dynamic mix of local merchants, specialty restaurants, and national retailers. There is something for everybody at the Avenue Peachtree City. In addition to a nice variety of shops and restaurants, the mall also hosts several community events for the entire family to enjoy. All in all, the Avenue Peachtree City is a great place to enjoy the city’s sights and sounds.

If you are the type who likes to think outside of the box when considering an afternoon adventure in Peachtree City, you might be interested in checking out Mastermind Escape Games. No, you don’t have to appreciate comic books to pay this shop a visit. In fact, visiting a comic book store will leave you a bit surprised and impressed by the fact that it’s not all about comics. You can find a bunch of fun stuff at 1st Edition Comics, including movies, collectibles, and games. 1st Edition Comics is the premiere comic collector’s shop in Peachtree City.

Founded in 1987, the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Dixie Wing offers the largest collection of World War II aircraft flying anywhere in the world. The CAF Dixie Wing is a non-profit organization that has restored and currently flies several Korean War and World War II aircraft, including an FG-1D Corsair, P-51 Mustang, and an extremely rare Douglas SBD Dauntless. It’s a great stop for those interested in vintage aircraft, and you can learn a lot in the group tours, educational tours, and interesting artifacts. In addition to the rare Korean and World War II aircraft, there is a room dedicated to memorabilia of the wars fought by Americans in the last century, including mannequins wearing authentic uniforms from the era.
